A Little More About the Little Bean

I gave you guys a ton of hints about our impending baby so I don’t think I shocked anyone with the news that we are expecting again. You’ve probably noticed many posts where I said I wasn’t feeling well or that our family is facing some big transitions and pieced it together. Also, there haven’t been many pictures of me on the blog lately which pointed toward some secrecy. I’m so glad its out in the open now! I just wanted to wait until we got past some of the scary tests and made it into the second trimester before I said too much! We are now 14 weeks, if you are curious.

I’m happy and very relieved to report that everything is going well so far. I had a ton of morning sickness this time around but it is definitely much better. I still have more food aversions than cravings but overall I feel good, healthy and ready to do this! We always talked about having two kids so it feels awesome to have this pregnancy taking place right now. I think Dylan is at a good age for it, though I’m terrified about how he’s going to respond to a new baby and having to share the spotlight at home. I’m also wondering how I’m going to juggle them both, but many women do it, and many do it with more than two kids, so I’m sure it will sort itself out. As you know if you follow this blog, I am a super hands-on mom and I don’t want Dylan to lose any of that so I’m hoping this new baby likes to be in a carrier a lot so that I can keep it (him? her?) close and still be very present for Dylan.

We don’t know  the gender yet but Jay and I are both pretty sure it’s a boy. All signs point to boy, including my gut instinct. I hope this boy likes teapots and tools because he’s about to inherit Dylan’s collections. I suppose if it’s a girl, the odds are just as likely that she will like teapots and tools too. Anyway, I just pray it is healthy! I also really hope I can carry this baby to term because Dylan was born a month early and it was very hard in the beginning. I imagine having a full term baby would make everything so much easier. I am scheduled to get a progesterone shot each week to try to prevent preterm birth, but there is only a 30% success rate with the shots. I think I will slow way down once I get around 30 weeks. I go for long walks 4-5 times a week now so maybe I’ll cut down on those. I also intend to eat whatever and really give this baby a chance to get big in the event it does come early! I’m already well on my way! Winking smile

Last night the three of us went to a Doula mixer to meet some prospective doulas. I didn’t want a doula with Dylan because I thought I would feel weird having a sort of stranger hanging out in the room while I gave birth, but now that I’ve done it once, I can see the benefits. Since we don’t have family here we have to find  our own support and I really want to try to have a natural birth this time. Jay and I joke that the doula will really be for him because he was a nervous wreck during Dylan’s birth. As we choose a doula a prerequisite is definitely going to be that she can keep Jay calm and positive during the birth.

So I think that catches you guys up to speed on the baby front! Its an exciting time so I’m glad I can share it with all of you.

I am so excited for you guys. Jamie and Alex are due in Feb. Of course it’s a boy, like Lisa’s . I hope she has another kid, but her place is very very small, couldn’t fit two kids in the room, and as they are both in education, they aren’t moving, prices too high here. Good luck, I love you, nan

Thanks, Nancy! I’m so excited for Alex and Jamie too! Tell Lisa
babies don’t take up that much room…and down the road, bunk beds rule.
