Blazer Love Friday

Post image for Blazer Love Friday

I’m so tempted to give you this picture without any context. I would, too, except I have to ask myself, what is this blog if not a bunch of context for my daily shenanigans? So, you win, here’s the backstory…

I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts this morning when the hosts threw out a challenge: take a picture of yourself wearing a blazer this Friday. Challenge accepted.

I mentally scanned my wardrobe and realized I only own one blazer circa 2001. It’s from Express and was a gift from my mother when I graduated college and set out for the real world. I’ve worn it to countless job interviews over the years and, well, it needs to retire.

I decided I would run into TJ Maxx before Dylan’s Kindermusik class this afternoon, grab a bunch of blazers, do a quick dressing room photo shoot and then bounce. It was a good plan except my other errands ended up running long and I had to decide between going to TJ Maxx and getting a coffee before Kindermusik. Coffee won because Kindermusik should only be experienced on caffeine.

To make my Friday blazer-wearing deadline I was left with only one choice. When Jay walked in the door tonight I handed him a Manhattan and his slippers and asked if I could borrow one of his suits, the shinier and more pleated the better. “Of course,” he said, “after my backrub.”

I donned Jason’s finest Brazilian-made suit and presented myself to my husband. He shuttered, grabbed his camera and told me how to pose. “You’re going to be in the middle of the stock exchange,” he said. “Yes,” I said, “I would like that very much.”

Then he told me I was going to be a Secret Service agent protecting the president. “Yes,” I agreed, “I am.”

It then became obvious to the both of us that I needed to model for a JC Penny catalog. The success of that you saw at the top of the screen.

Everything was moving along seamlessly until I had the idea that I was going to spoof the book Fifty Shades of Gray by biting my lower lip seductively like the female main character in the story. Turns out I don’t know how to bite my lip seductively.

Jay took the picture while laughing then informed me that you’re not supposed to put your whole lip in your mouth. I tried a tinier lip-nibble but it looked awkward too. But then, what’s not awkward about these pictures?

“Never mind the lip thing,” I dismissed after previewing the picture, “I’ll just make my sexy face.”

Bottom line: I’m no minx. I am, however, a fashion trail blazer. Get it!? Blazer!?

(tap, tap…is this thing on?)

Thanks to Jason for playing with Photoshop tonight. Now please, everyone, erase these images from your memories.

Okay, fine. One more:

That one’s called, “The Executioner”.

To say it in a respectful manor, you look very nice in Jason’s clothes. Please do not take pictures of Jason in YOUR clothes and post them on here……………
