If you can follow this, I commend you:

My sister, Alana…

and father…

…had a meeting together after work tonight (their jobs overlap sometimes) so my sister needed help picking Julia up from day care…

…and Ryder from chorus.

It all worked out so that I drove Dylan and my grandmother to my sister’s school (she’s a teacher), switched cars with her in order to get a second car seat, picked Julia up from day care and then went to my sister’s house to wait for her and everyone else. Meanwhile, my mother got out of work (also a teacher) and picked Ryder up from chorus and my other sister, Kelly’s, oldest son, Parker, from day care…

…and they all joined us at Alana’s. Then my dad and Alana arrived after their meeting. Finally, Kelly, got out of work and picked up her youngest son, Trevor, from day care and made her way to the house. When we were finally all together we decided to break into the Goldfish, crack open some wine and order dinner!

We had to gate everyone into the kitchen and living room area in order to keep the babies from the stairs. Everywhere you looked was a baby or toddler:

It was the kind of chaos I will miss terribly when I go back to Georgia. I know Dylan will too! He is a people-person and loves all the excitement.

You can see what I’m talking about in this video. This is my family the way I think of them when I am away:

Well, I don’t want to get all mushy so let me share a couple funny things. Alana was inadvertently cracking me up tonight. She did three things that made me laugh. For context you should know that Alana is a very sincere person who cheers everyone on and never wants to hurt anyone’s feelings or offend them.

1) She bought this wine because it made her think of me:

Its called Middle Sister and the label mentions the middle sister being a drama queen. I fit a bit of the middle sister stereotype and am not easily offended, but Alana apologized for the label and wanted me to know that she didn’t fully read it before she bought it. It will take a lot more than being called a drama queen to offend me!

2) She gave me a charm for my wine glass so that I would know which one was mine. My charm was a little snail and Alana made sure to tell me that she picked it for me randomly and didn’t assign it to me because of its meaning. She said, “I don’t want you to think I think you’re slow.”

3) I turned my camera phone on her and told her to smile and she did this:

She crouched down. I asked why she crouched down and she said she thought I was trying to take a picture of someone behind her. We laughed and then I got this shot:

Very formal.

Anyway, pointless stuff but I thought it was funny.

Before I sign off for the night I want to share a few pictures and notes from yesterday and this morning. (Oh, and I should note that Dylan and I haven’t come down with the stomach bug yet but I decided I’m not going to blog about it anymore unless we actually get it…boy who cries wolf and all that…)

Yesterday I got to have breakfast with one of my best friends, Beth, and her adorable daughter, Lucia!

I only get to see Beth when I visit, which is sad, but at the same time it’s been fun sharing our pregnancies and babies with each other over the last couple years. Each time we see each other our kids are bigger and reaching new milestones. Maybe someday Dylan will want to take Lucia out on a date! If he can make it past her dad that is…(Hi, Adam!)

Fast forward to this morning when I took Dylan outside to play and he was dead set on sledding…

…on the grass. He could not be deterred so I just indulged him! We also drew on the driveway some more. And when I say “we” I mean “I”. Dylan just learned the ASL sign for star so we’ve been on a star kick lately:

I think that catches you up to speed! Looking ahead, tomorrow Dylan and I are spending the day with Ryder who has it off from school. I turn 34 on Sunday…and I was just going to write “Booooo!” but changed my mind because that is too negative! Instead I’m going to celebrate the fact that I’ve had 34 years on earth with an amazing family both here and in Georgia and I hope to have many, many more!

p.s. Hi, Jay! I miss you terribly!

Wow, what a weekend! Two birthdays were celebrated and lots of cake was consumed.
