Dylan started part-time preschool a couple of months ago. I worried about sending him for a long time before I decided to try it. I began to see that he would benefit from spending more structured time with other kids and that I would benefit from having some time to myself (even if most of that time is spent cleaning). Because we are so attached, I assumed it would traumatic. In fact, I assumed that I would try it and an hour into it the teacher would inform me that he just wasn’t ready. I was prepared for that.
What I didn’t expect was that he would do so well! The first couple of days were rocky but he’s adapted quickly overall. I don’t think he loves going, but he does seem quite content and calm when he comes home. I think it fills a need in him that wasn’t getting met from me (I can do a lot, but I can never be his peer). He goes two days a week for three hours per day and I have been loving that time to get things done. Win win!
(Also of note on the note above is that Dylan “wouldn’t eat” lunch. Big surprise there…sigh. You can’t win them all.)
