(It just dawned on me that I forgot to post a Weekend Recap yesterday. I guess I lost track of days. Sorry about that! I’m going to make this post extra long to make up for it.)

Dylan and I are enjoying our visit at my parents’ house in New Hampshire! This morning I took him sledding in the backyard and it was, in a word, special. I have to thank my dad for making it possible.

Here is my father’s clay likeness:

I thank him for chipping ice away from the shed this morning in order to get the sled out for me before leaving for work. He got his dress shirt dirty and had to come in and change.

I thank him for choosing to build my childhood home on a nice, big piece of land on a pretty country road where the snow that falls is clean and inviting.

And I thank him for taking me sledding when I was a kid and giving me wonderful memories I can now recreate with Dylan.

Dylan was adorably confused by the snow, which he doesn’t see much in Georgia. He had the hardest time getting his footing…but he didn’t give up!

We made endless runs up and down the big hill in the front yard.

And then I pulled him around the property a few times. He was wearing a permanent grin.

When I was too tired to make another lap we played in the driveway. I found sand toys from the summer and we used them to make snow shapes.

Eventually, I tricked Dylan into going inside which I don’t think he would’ve done without coercion. We hung out in my parents’ empty basement (they are remodeling) and Dylan played peekaboo with me in his little lumberjack outfit. It was funny having him hide behind the door and pop out to surprise me rather than the other way around.

The fresh air was good for him and he took a nice long nap after that!

This afternoon I made Dylan clean the house…

…and then we went to the pet store to kill time before stopping by my sister, Alana’s, house. I thought Dylan would enjoy seeing the animals but he was much more interested in the automatic doors and miniature shopping carts.

I’ve mentioned before that Dylan has a slew of cousins his age here. Today he got to play with three of them! They are so cute together!

Here he is with Julia:

And later Parker came over and had fun too! I felt like I was at a day care.

After that Dylan and I drove home. My mom fed him dinner and played with him while I worked out.

Being home and having all this support is such a treat! Tomorrow is Parker’s first birthday and we are all going to a local Friendly’s for dinner. He’s having a birthday party on Saturday and I’ll be sure to include that in my Weekend Recap, which I promise I won’t forget next week!

Looks like you guys had a great day. I miss you both. Poor guy had a rough time walking in the snow. His hands must have been freezing. I bet he loved sledding. Keep them coming Court! These posts are awesome!

This was very special for me to read, Courtney.
The pictures of you and Dylan having fun in our yard are ones I will always treasure. You are a wonderful mother and a beautiful daughter, and Dylan is sheer delight. I am glad you get to spend this time with your sisters and niece and nephews, and Dylan with his aunties and cousins. Can you even imagine how proud I am of my daughters and grandchildren? You may be looking for yourself in the mess, but guess what? To me you can never be hidden; you sparkle like a jewel.

I’m so glad he’s playing in the snow. I know it’s a change from Georgia weather, but he’ll learn to love it someday 🙂
And yes, your parent’s house is perfect for all that winter activity!!

I thought of you when we were sledding because the snow was perfect for snowboarding! Not that I’ve ever done it, mind you.
