Thanksgiving Highlights

Post image for Thanksgiving Highlights

I hope you all had great Thanksgivings! I am thankful for those of you who follow along with my blog and allow me to share special moments of my life with you!

We spent the holiday with my in-laws, Roxanne and Russ! We left on Tuesday to drive to Nashville for a night before finishing the 8 hour journey to Indianapolis.

Dylan was great in the car and kept himself totally entertained for four hours, but that was just about his limit as he was starting to unbuckle his car seat (which, annoyingly, he knows how to do) towards the end.

We stayed the night at the Gaylord Opryland Resort, which is a beautiful and gigantic hotel and convention center! I mean, just look at the view from the lobby:

The hotel has a sprawling indoor botanical garden. There are many wings to the hotel with various shops, restaurants, displays and gardens in each one. As soon as we checked in, Dylan wanted to run around and explore.

There were a lot of Christmas events taking place, but Dylan had his heart set on the pool. We only had enough time for one activity before dinner, so we went to the pool!

After a looooong pool session, Dylan wrapped up and reflected on the fun he’d just had.

Here he is talking about his time in the pool and his plans to explore the hotel more:

Our room overlooked part of the atrium below. We left early for dinner so that we could walk around and check out the sites:

It was even more beautiful there at night with all the twinkling lights! Keep in mind, this is all inside!

We ended up getting very lost trying to find the restaurant. Dylan had to take a rest to regroup along the way.

Snapped a belly shot for you Smile

Jay didn’t want to take the stroller and Dylan decided he didn’t want to walk early on so Jay had to carry Dylan for a very long time while we tried to find the restaurant. When we finally got there, he was beyond ready for a drink!

We ate the Old Hickory Steakhouse. I had a roasted chicken and oh, look, here it is:

Dylan ate fancy fries and actually enjoyed them despite the look on his face here. Jay had a steak, which he loved, but he took a picture of it half gone and its kind of gross to look at in that state so I’ll spare you the image.

We packed up Wednesday morning and got back on the road.

We stopped for breakfast at Bob Evans.

We got to Russ and Roxanne’s house late afternoon and hung out there for awhile before going out for dinner. Russ was elbow deep in Thanksgiving baking when we arrived. He had already made multiple cherry, apple and pumpkin pies as well as yeast rolls by the time we arrived. He bakes in bulk!

Jay and Russ enjoyed these lovely margaritas with dinner. I was envious!

Here’s a cute picture of Dylan and his Grammy both chewing on ice:

We celebrated the first night of Hanukkah using the menorah Jay used growing up. His dad was Jewish and always lit the menorah candles with Jay so we are going to carry on the tradition (along with Christmas). Dylan doesn’t quite get it yet…he thinks he’s blowing out birthday candles.

Here’s a video of Dylan’s first Hanukkah. Jay hasn’t said the candle prayer in years so apologies to real Jewish people if this is a little off…

As if he hadn’t baked enough, or didn’t have enough cooking ahead of him for the day, Russ made delicious cranberry and walnut muffins for breakfast! They were as good as they look!

We spent the day just hanging out. More family joined us for Thanksgiving dinner in the afternoon, but mostly we just relaxed and smelled delicious food cooking.

The only outing we made (because we always have to go somewhere) was a quick trip to the grocery store for a few items we needed for Dylan. He, of course, was distracted by the toy aisle.

Here’s the delicious spread! Thanks to Russ for making this wonderful dinner!

Here’s Dylan’s second night of Hanukkah. He still wants to blow out the candles…and Jay’s prayer gets a little shorter!

We spent Friday morning visiting and then went to Uno Chicago Grill for lunch.

Some cute pictures of Jay with his mom:

Jay, Dylan and I went to visit some of Jays’ close high school friends who were in town for the holiday. We passed the house he grew up in on the way:

Here he is with his friends Melissa and Jen.

IMG_0432 (640x480)

Jen has two ADORABLE and kind children who really took Dylan under their wing and entertained him. He was totally smitten with 6-year old Quinn. The two of them played with her scarf for hours. It alternated between being a prop and a fashion accessory. She liked styling him.

Here’s a cute video of Quinn and Dylan. She was SO GOOD with him! I wish we lived closer and they could see each other again!

Ok, and now for the BEST VIDEO EVER EVER. We have been playing HedBanz with Russ and Roxanne at night after Dylan goes to bed. Jay happened to get this video of Roxanne trying to come up with the word “bacon”. This video was taken after multiple rounds of her not getting it…it’s a much watch. Smile

Peace and Love!

I love the fact that the Sirotin name is carried on in a Jewish tradition
