That Date Was A BLAST!

Date Day rolled around again and we didn’t have a clue what to do. We took turns trying to come up with an idea but there is literally nothing going on in Cartersville, Georgia on a random Sunday in February. That’s why I was so excited when I got this text from Jay as I was putting Dylan down for a nap:

The babysitter arrived and we departed.

Jay’s car was stocked with gum again. I noted that the packaging doesn’t specify the flavors and Jay said that’s because it’s a “manly” brand of gum and doesn’t need to. I guess men don’t care if they’re chewing apple or mint?

We hit up Moe’s Southwest Grill for a quick lunch on our way to…who knows. At this point, I still had no clue where we were going! For some reason I thought he was taking me to make pottery.

Jay got a mound of veggies and meat:

And I had a burrito. Yum!

I ate as quickly as I could (I am usually a slow eater). Then we hopped in the car and arrived HERE:

We were going to shoot guns. I mean, we were going to shoot GUNS! I am not a gun person. I don’t own one and I don’t want to own one with a child in the house (I know it can be done safely, but I have bad luck and would be constantly worried about it). However, I’ve always wanted to go to a firing range. You see people do it on reality shows all the time (why is this one of the quintessential reality show activities? Kim on The Real Housewives of Atlanta went a few episodes ago and I wonder, since we were close to ATL, if we were at the same one?!)

I was surprised by how quickly we were set up with guns, bullets, ear protectors and targets and set free to go shoot unassisted. The firing range was extremely loud from gun shots and it was kind of scary and intimidating to enter. Jay and I were looking at each other with really wide eyes. It was exciting! First we loaded the revolver.

Jay let me go first. Here I am before my first shot, looking timid:

Jay went next. He looks scared too!

We had to eject the empty bullet shells after each round and reload. Here I am struggling with that for the first time:

Here’s a video of my first BULLSEYE!

Well, alright, near bullseye. I got one for real later on and Jay got a bunch of them. I think we were both pretty good shots!

We shot for quite a while…

There was a guy in the lane next to us who enjoyed giving me tips. As we were getting ready to go he approached me with his pistol and asked if I wanted to shoot it. I declined (he was a little weird) but Jay said he’d shoot it so the guy handed Jay his gun and showed him how to use it. He insisted that Jay save a few bullets for me. Here’s Jay shooting the high caliber pistol. He was shocked by the kickback! And it made a cool spark when the bullet came out!

And here I am shooting the pistol! It practically knocked me over. The look on my face after I shot it says it all…

Today’s date was so much fun because it was DIFFERENT and because it was a new activity for us to explore together. We want to do this more often and are challenging ourselves to come up with new and novel date ideas despite our geographical limitations. I proposed that on our next date we get dorky Sears portraits done at the mall. Jay’s into it.

We hit a ton of traffic on the way home and ended up a little late, but Dylan was fine and having a great time with his babysitter. That was probably the best part of the date because it gave me confidence that we’re entering a stage where these dates can start getting a little longer too. Imagine the possibilities…

Since I can’t seem to find a way of posting a picture for you to see, I’ll put it on your Facebook page. It is of Kelley doing the same thing with her husband Jay. Hmmmmmmm. Seems like I see a definite thing going on here. Husband “Jay”. Pistols involved…………….

This is a great example of the difference between men and women. You thought a fun date would have been making pottery. He thought a fun date was shooting guns! Haha. It looks like you two had a lot of fun together though! The videos were a great addition!
