Weekend Recap: Fall Family Fun

We had a nice weekend except that 1/3 of our family spent it in excruciating pain. Poor Jason has been suffering from a pinched nerve in his neck and the pain seems to be intensifying each day. He has very powerful sneezes and every so often this happens and, sadly, each time the recovery takes longer.

There isn’t much Jay can do to speed up his recovery so we tried to enjoy the weekend as best we could, though perhaps a bit more delicately.

Saturday

We kicked off the weekend at a Fall festival. It was pretty incredible with bouncy houses, Halloween-themed areas, zoo animals, games, art stations and more.

I asked the alpaca trainer what sound alpacas make. Do you know? (Answer below)

Answer: “Hmm Hmm Hmm” like a staccato hum.

I was very proud of Dylan for riding on a pony! You may (though probably don’t) remember when he last rode on a pony in May. He was scared back then but this time he rode like a champ!

Giddy up!

When we returned home, Dylan napped and I cleaned.  Another cool thing happened later in the afternoon when Dylan put on the Boogie Monster leg warmers that came with his Boogie Monster Dance Kit. He’s always been afraid of the leg warmers but on Saturday he felt brave, put them on and felt very cool.

(BTW, the Boogie Monster Dance Kit by Josie Bissett, along with her Tickle Monster Laughter Kit, are both awesome for toddlers.)

Breaking it down…sort of:

The only other outing we had on Saturday was an evening trip to the grocery store. We dressed Dylan in his PJs and got him ready for bed before we left so that he was ready to go to sleep right when we got home. Worked well!

Sunday

This morning I made a very sore Jason a Paleo-friendly biscuits and sausage gravy recipe.

The pumpkin we carved a couple weeks ago got moldy so I took Dylan to a pumpkin patch to pick out a new one while Jay stayed home and worked and rested his neck.

Dylan must think pumpkins have fallen from the sky and are invading the earth. All of a sudden, out of the blue, they are everywhere he goes in mass quantities. He seems to be “rolling” with it though.

(Get it? Because “Five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.”)

Back home, we brought a new “Jack” into our life. (Shout out to my friend, Katie, who got Dylan that book. He loves it!)

Shortly after we carved the pumpkin, Dylan spilled a glass of orange juice on the floor and then sat in it, so he had an early bath. Lately, the only way I can get him into the tub is by allowing him to play with this giant watering can, which he thinks is a tea pot. He freakin’ loves the I’m A Little Tea Pot song.

In the afternoon Jay’s “Little Brother”, Stephan, came to visit. Jay joined the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program four years ago and was paired with Stephan and it has been so cool watching him grow up! When we first started hanging out with Stephan he was so little and now he’s practically a man! He just got his license!

We went out for dinner but for me it was more like going to the gym because I spent the whole meal using all of my muscles to try to contain Dylan in the booth. He was wired and literally climbing the walls.

Wiggle worm:

He was so active it was actually comical.

There we go and here we are. The weekend is now over and Monday is looming. This week ahead will be busy but fun because we are traveling to Indiana to visit Jay’s family and attend a wedding. Between now and then, however, I have exactly 15,078 things to do and no time to do it. Better get going!
