Weekend Recap: Grammy Roxanne

Post image for Weekend Recap: Grammy Roxanne

I’ve got a great mother-in-law. Legit. Roxanne is nice, funny and easy going. She doesn’t judge or put pressure on me about anything, and she always stands up for me when Jay and I have (light-hearted) battles of the sexes. I always enjoy when she visits, and that’s what happened this weekend!

Perhaps my favorite thing about Roxanne is her uncomplicated love of kids. She’s the kind of person to make silly faces, jump into a game and follow along with their antics. She can also calm them down and make them giggle; two great qualities in a grandmother. My only complaint is that we don’t get to see her more often!

Roxanne arrived Friday afternoon so we were all together on Saturday morning. Over the course of the weekend, Dylan decided that his grandmother was the best person to play doll house with so he would request her company when he wanted to play.

Dylan and Grammy Roxanne playing doll house part 1:

For some reason,  I could watch videos of people playing with doll houses for hours (well, maybe just 10 minutes), so here’s another one that I enjoyed:

Jay’s brother, Justin, lives a few minutes from us, so we got to spend extra time with him this weekend too. He came by the house in the morning and then we all hopped in the car to have some adventures.

Justin works at CNN so we parked there for free and then walked to the aquarium.

The Sirotins:

It was an overcast Saturday so the aquarium was ridiculously busy. We stayed for maybe 20 minutes, bought a few things in the gift shop and then high-tailed it out of there.

Then we headed back to CNN and ate at Dantanna’s, one of the restaurants inside the building.

We drove back to the house to regroup and then headed right back out to attend a birthday party for Riley, the daughter of some of our friends (and Dylan’s pseudo-girlfriend).

The party was held at Catch Air, a whimsical indoor playground, and Dylan tore it up. It was seriously one of his best days ever.

We all took turns riding the big slides with him, including his grandmother!

Here he is sliding with me:

Dylan’s favorite thing at Catch Air are the mini-dance parties.

We went out for dinner and drinks with some friends after the party. (The guys needed a few drinks by then…). I ended up going home alone with Dylan when his bedtime had come and gone and no one wanted to leave yet. It was a good move because he fell asleep the second his head hit the pillow.

Sunday was nice and relaxing. First, I went for a walk by myself on the Silver Comet Trail while Roxanne played with Dylan. When I got back, Jay and his mom went to the gym while I took Dylan to the pool. Everyone got to do something fun!

When lunch time rolled around, we were all pretty hungry. Justin joined us at Tasty China, which is basically the best place to get Chinese food in all of Atlanta. We each ordered a meal and then Jay added on a bunch of other dishes he wanted his mother to try. The amount of food on our table was ridiculous (and delicious). I’ll be eating it for a week!

Later on back home I got some cute pictures and videos of Roxanne teaching Dylan how to ride a bike. Great memories in the making!
