Weekend Recap: Home Body

I have been home in New Hampshire since Tuesday so this weekend recap will span a few days more than the weekend. I barely left the house at all this weekend due to black ice so if I were to just recap the weekend, I wouldn’t have a ton to share!

I suppose a good place to start is with this picture of Dylan’s first moment in the snow this year. He didn’t have mittens, which was a big mistake because shortly after this picture and the following video were taken, he ran inside with frost bit fingers! I don’t think he’ll ever give me a hard time about mittens again.

Since Jay was busy in LA preparing for his new show about a year ‘round Christmas store, I decided to visit one with Dylan to take pictures to send to Jay for inspiration. Here are just a few of the tons I sent him. I hope to go back with Jay in the next few days.

A big moment this week was Dylan reuniting with his cousins. He saw Parker and Trevor a night before he saw Julia and Ryder. Here he is seeing Julia for the first time since his last visit. He was so excited to see her!

This was taken the same night at Friendly’s. Trevor and Ryder look like twins (separated by a few years).

We all went to my sister Alana’s house after Friendly’s. The kids got in their jammies and watched a Mickey Mouse Christmas movie.

Before the show…there was some dancing. I feel like I should make the note that Alana had “Ugly Sweater” day at work, which explains her…awkward…outfit.

Here’s a random picture and video from another night when Dylan intercepted a call from an emergency broadcast.

Skipping ahead to Saturday night (I went to the mall during the day for some last minute shopping and Kelly and the boys came over after that), I have to share this story. I wouldn’t share it if everything didn’t turn out okay, but since it did, I will. Think of it as a cautionary tale.

After I read Dylan stories at night, he stays in his room and tools around until he doses off. On Saturday, however, he was unusually wired and was getting into everything in the room. I didn’t realize what he had done until I walked in the room and saw him sitting on the floor surrounded by all my toiletries, which he had somehow retrieved off of a high bureau. He had squirted all my toothpaste onto the floor, emptied my skin oil and drained his nasal saline spray. He had then tried to pick up the mess and emptied an entire box of tissues out onto the goo too. The scary part is that my razor was on the floor as well as the needles I use for my progesterone shot but thankfully he didn’t touch those. To top it off, when I walked in he was eating one of his chocolate laxatives and had his hand in the bag for more. I stopped him before he had another. He was adament he had only eaten one, and a day later he hasn’t shown any signs of having eating more (if you know what I mean…).  I can’t even imagine what would’ve happened if I didn’t walk in the room at that very minute. It is terrifying and, needless to say, many more precautions are taking place now when I leave the room at night.

But that’s not all…

Dylan ran into the living room as my mom and I were cleaning up the mess and all of a sudden we heard a loud crash. We ran into the room and this is what we saw:

He had somehow shattered the glass on the coffee table! There were shards everywhere but he was miraculously unharmed. I wasn’t there to see how it happened, but I am so grateful he was okay. It was a TERRIFYING ten minutes of my life. After all this happened, I got into bed with Dylan and my poor mom had to clean up the glass by herself. We decided keeping him away from it was the biggest concern.

I’m not winning any parenting awards…

The next day, no worse for wear, Dylan and I kicked it around the house all morning. Rain was mixing with freezing temps and my dad pulled rank like when I was a teenager and refused to let me leave the house, given my pregnant state and all. Obviously, I saw his point and didn’t put up too much of a fight.

My mom and dad had a retirement party to go to so I was looking at a long day in the house with Dylan, who hadn’t left the house at all on Saturday either. I had wanted to take Dylan to see Frozen with his cousins but we postponed the movie and Kelly came over with her boys again instead, which saved the day.

Because it was looking a lot like this for awhile…

Kelly brought some crafts with her, which the kids enjoyed! I was surprised Dylan liked stringing beads! I had assumed he wouldn’t have the patience, but he stuck with it through the length of a bracelet. I’ll have to remember this to do with him back home sometime.

Here’s a video of the kids stringing their beads:

When they were over it, Kelly and I indulged ourselves and strung a few necklaces. Girls can’t help it; we are compelled to string beads.

The relationship between Dylan and Parker took a cool turn this visit. Previously, they have been a bit standoffish/competitive with each other, but this time they are buddies and really bonding nicely. I think a shared love of the show Paw Patrol (on Nick Jr.) sealed the deal. They love sitting together and watching it.

Uncle Ben doling out tickles:

Cute kids in PJs:

I’ve noticed Trevor has really come out of his shell…or maybe into his own…since my last visit too! He is quite vocal and adds a lot to the excitement among the easily excitable boys.

Here’s a video of Dylan and Trevor being silly:

Dylan has also been very overtly affectionate with everyone with visit, especially Kelly. He is running up to everyone, grownups and kids, and giving out big hugs and kisses all throughout the day. He loves being with his family here. I can’t even stand it that we won’t be back for at least 6 months after this, but focusing on the reason…a new baby…makes it worth it.

A final video of Trevor getting his groove on. He just felt like dancing, I guess. Smile

Jay arrived late Sunday night! My parents went to the airport to get him due to the ice. They all got back around midnight safely.

Hope you all had wonderful weekends and are enjoying the holiday season!

I enjoyed this post so much! I guess weather plays a huge role in winter plans in New Hampshire, but sometimes it just gives you a good reason to relax and take it easy….. The kids really enjoyed the bead stringing and dancing! Except for that late night could have been tragic interlude ( which Thank God it wasn ‘t!), it looks like happy times were had by all!

Maybe not a journal, but a journal article about the conference and about the challenge to have more scientists blogging would be nice. After all, a paper would be the best way to reach those addressed by the challenge.

Just going for a walk or run does wonders for my writer’s block. Or sometimes I’ll plan inspiration days somewhere (museum, art gallery opening, aquarium…) and just bring a moleskin along with me. It’s amazing what getting out of my apartment will do to clear my head.

I do know this isn’t precisely on topic, however i have a web page using the identical program as properly and i get troubles with my comments displaying. is there a setting i am missing? it’s doable it’s possible you’ll assist me out? thanx.
