Weekend Recap: Mended

I’m super happy to report that Dylan is feeling much better! His fever broke Friday morning but then Saturday he woke up with a full body rash. A quick conference with his doctor revealed that a rash following a fever is a very common occurrence in a child fighting a virus and that it’s a sign that his body did what it was supposed to do and kicked the virus’s butt. Or something like that. Bottom line is: Dylan’s week long illness seems to be over and that made this otherwise low-key weekend higher-key. (See what I did there?)

Saturday

After a lazy morning at home, including the aforementioned phone call to Dylan’s doctor, we eventually made our way to an outdoor festival in a neighboring town called Kennesaw. The weather this weekend was my favorite: high 60s, low 70s. Oh, how I wish we could have this weather all year ‘round!

Dylan enjoyed the festival. He and I had been cooped up last week so it felt nice to be somewhere…well…other than our house!

Dylan was enthralled by these wooden signs at one of the vendor booths. He wouldn’t leave them until he secured the artist’s business card.

Dylan and I stopped to watch a weird multi-generational dance routine taking place on a stage and when I turned around a few minutes later, I saw this:

Jay, somehow, had picked up way too many free fruit and yogurt cups. We carried them about twenty feet and decided we’d never eat them so he gave them to someone else. We also watched a few minutes of a puppet show, but it was moving a little slowly and we were getting hungry for lunch so we ducked out early.

We had lunch at a restaurant in the heart of the festival. They had a simple menu for the day because they knew they were going to have to move a lot of people through their doors. They also served everything on paper plates with plastic utensils. None of that matters to me except for the fact that the wine I ordered was also served in a plastic cup. I have this thing about wine…I hardly drink, so when I do, I really want a pretty, stemmed wine glass! For me, its about the process of having a glass of wine more than the actual wine. I didn’t care that much, but figured I’d share that random tidbit with your anyway.

Dylan’s not that picky about his chocolate milk:

We popped into Walmart after the festival to pick up some pictures we had printed. Jay spotted this rug hanging in the photo department and couldn’t stop “admiring” it. Can you imagine curling up on the couch with a mug of hot chocolate and having your husband’s face staring up at you?

I kinda sorta have to have one.

Anyway, we made our way back home and spent some time relaxing!

I don’t think I actually relaxed though. Whenever I’m home I’m usually moving something along: dishes and laundry get shuffled, toys get contained, books get read and so on. I’m not good at sitting still anyway, so it works. Somehow, even with all my shuffling, the house is still a mess at the end of the day!

Anyway, after dinner and Dylan’s bath we decided to head back outside. Jay and I walked Dylan around the neighborhood in his wagon and then played balls and bubbles in the driveway.

Dylan likes to spin around and sit down when a ball gets tossed his way. No one taught him this move, but he seems to think it’s the right thing to do when playing catch. It’s a little frustrating for the person throwing the ball. Smile

Sunday

Jason had plans to play disc golf at a park in Roswell with his brother Sunday morning, so Dylan and I tagged along to play on the playground with Justin’s girlfriend, Kendy.

I enjoyed getting up kind of early and spending a couple of hours at a park. The place we went to had a couple different playgrounds connected by a road so Kendy and I pulled Dylan to different play areas in his wagon.

Kendy and Justin came back to our house for lunch. I made homemade sweet potato fries in coconut oil and both turkey and beef burgers. I forgot to take pictures of the food, but I liked making my own fries so I think I’m going to invest in a french fry cutter. If I do, I’ll share the process with you guys in a future post.

Jason and I went on a day date in the afternoon. We didn’t have an agenda so we just bopped around. We got the car washed, I returned some shoes to DSW and picked up a couple jean skirts for summer, we got coffees and then we went for a lovely walk on the Silver Comet Trail.

A couple of bikers stopped us and asked us to take their picture. We took theirs and then they took ours! I don’t want to show it to you, though, because I look horrible in it!

We also ran into some of our friends and their new baby walking on the trail so it was nice to catch up with them too.

I guess that’s about it for the weekend! I appreciated it even more than usual because everyone was healthy again. I hope all of you had high-key weekends too!
