Saturday

I feel like perhaps my weekend recaps are getting a little boring/redundant so I will spare you pictures of Dylan eating breakfast and jump straight to the new toy I made him. He was looking to get into mischief while I was picking up from breakfast so I grabbed an empty oat container, cut a small hole in the center, dumped a bag of M&Ms into a Ziploc bag and convinced him it would be a blast to take each candy from the bag and drop it into the oat container one at a time. He loved it!

I think he takes after me because I also like repetitive, mindless activities. For example, I LOVE stuffing envelopes.

So here’s some news…

You know how we are trying to sell our house because we want to live closer to civilization? Well, we’ve decided to rent it instead because we don’t want to wait any longer. We figured out a way to do it without too many risks or expenses so we are really excited! Jay spent a lot of Saturday morning on the phone with various people regarding this move. While Jason did that Dylan and I played. Here’s another makeshift toy that he enjoyed:

Late morning Dylan and I went for a nice, long walk in the woods. He slept and I listened to an audiobook. (Bet you could’ve predicted that.) I will miss this road when we move for sure. I hope we can find a place with a walking trail!

After lunch we saddled up and set out for a local festival. There sure are a lot of those around here!

IMG_1572 (640x480)

I’m a sucker for an outdoor festival. I scour the internet for them and try to go to as many as possible.

IMG_3663 (640x480)

Dylan likes them too! Smile There was a giant bounce house that was designed for older kids but he wanted to do it (of course) and totally held his own! I was so proud.

Then he went in a smaller bounce house and was the only kid in there. Sad smile He looked lonely so Jay got in with him. As usual, Jay exerted much more effort than Dylan.

IMG_1586 (640x480)

There was a petting zoo and pony rides too. I thought Dylan would enjoy a pony ride but as this video shows, he did not. (For the record, I know the guy who owns these ponies and they are well cared for and usually get to roam free on his farm so I didn’t feel too horrible about the pony ride situation.)

Family fun on the river banks.

Now here’s something sort of funny. Jay has been quite successful at getting a fussy Dylan to smile with a technique I like to call, “Look at that!” or “Hold this!” depending on the circumstances. He basically just rapidly points at things for Dylan to look at or rapidly hands things for Dylan to hold. The rapid fire part of it throws Dylan off guard and by the time he wraps his head around what’s going on he’s forgotten about his tantrum. Here it is in action:

Back home the M&M toy continue to prove entertaining.

We had our usual evening of playing, bathing and a little housekeeping…my “chores”…like this laundry. Blech.

After Dylan was asleep Jay and I hung out and had fun looking for places to live on his iPad (Ha! We’re not actually planning to live on his iPad). Not knowing where you are going to end up is half the fun of moving.

Sunday

On Mother’s Day I am, of course, thinking of my lovely mother and wishing I could celebrate her with her! Anyone who knows my mom knows I hit the jackpot when I got her! I think of her every day and hope Dylan grows up to feel as loved as I do by my mom!

Speaking of my little squirt, I think he’d make a good DJ. He has this mini DVD player and one of his favorite things to do is get a stack of his favorite DVDs and put them in one at a time. He plays each one to a certain spot then takes it out and pops in the next one. I don’t know what’s going through his head or how he makes his decisions but he takes it seriously and it seems like he’s orchestrating something in his head.

Since I spend too much of my time in Catersville, when Jay asked what I wanted to do for Mother’s Day I said I wanted to drive around and look for places to live. My only other request was to go out for lunch somewhere other than Jefferson’s.

We suffered from a bout of poor planning because the sales offices for the places we wanted to view were not open on Sunday. Also, it was raining hard all day. As a result, poor Dylan was stuck in the car driving around sort of aimlessly for a few hours. Eventually, I declared that he needed to get out and stretch his legs so we pulled into a mall. I was also hoping to wear him out for a quick nap back in the car because he was overdue.

IMG_3683 (640x480)

He had a blast on the escalators!

IMG_3690 (640x480)

And on his daddy’s shoulders. Smile

IMG_3698 (640x480)

We also refueled.

IMG_3699 (640x480)

Dylan enjoyed the mall rides as usual. We didn’t have many quarters so Jay simulated the rides by shaking the contraptions while Dylan played with the controls. He didn’t even notice a difference.

At this point in the day I don’t think we were having much fun. We had decided we need a realtor for the house hunting and driving around in the rain was getting old. Dylan didn’t nap so his potential fussiness and growing need for sleep was also looming. It was time to eat lunch but we couldn’t decide where to go. Jay, being sweet, wanted me to pick whatever I was craving since it was Mother’s Day. I, however, have the inability to disregard his needs (Paleo Diet) and Dylan’s (Will Only Eat Bacon Diet) so it was a bit of a mess. I was ready to throw in the towel but Jay persisted and we eventually found a place! Boy was I happy to have this:

Dylan didn’t eat anything (of course) but he held up well considering the day!

We were grateful for this windowsill where he spent the entirety of the meal entertained.

Mother’s Day <3

Back in the car Dylan zonked out!

IMG_3707 (640x480)

Later in the afternoon I had a hankering to bake something so I whipped up a batch of mini cupcakes. Dylan has been fixated on the cupcakes in all his books so I thought he might like one in real life. He knows where they are in all of his books…he flips to the pages and licks the pictures of the cupcakes! He helped me with the process. Perhaps  you can see his handiwork?

IMG_3713 (640x480)IMG_3715 (640x480)

They ended up really cute! Dylan didn’t want one and I’m not unhappy about that because they are junk anyway. I just wanted to make them! I’m going to bring them to a friend I have here who has four kids because they will eat them!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mother’s in my life! You all inspire me!

IMPORTANT! I am editing this post to add two pictures I forgot.

1) I meant to share the pretty jewelry my mom sent me for Mother’s Day.

It arrived in a care package with lots of fun things for me and Dylan. I love the jewelry! Thanks, Mom!

AND…this is very important…

2) I forgot to include a picture of the meal I (finally) ate on Mother’s Day. My friend Michele noted the omission in the comments so, Michele, this is for you!

It was a combo meal with two kinds of “fusion” tacos and a side of rice and beans. It was good but not filling and I ended up eating a giant cookie in the car on the way home.

Ummmm…don’t leave me hanging…what did you order for dinner at the restaurant on Mother’s Day?? How could you leave out such a major detail?! 🙂

Ha!! Funny you should ask…I, of course, took a picture of it but forgot to put it in the post. I remembered after and was going to update it but thought, “Don’t be anal, Courtney, no one will care about that.” But you do! And I’m glad. 🙂 I’ll update the post tonight but in the meantime, here’s a hint: it was Asian/Latino fusion…as Jay just informed me.

What a great Morher’s day you had! I feel like I hit the jackpot when I had you!
Great activity you made for Dylan. I will try it for Julia and Parket!
