Happy Easter! Hope everybody had a great one!
It was a typical low-key Sirotin weekend around here…
Saturday
My parents sent Dylan an Easter basket. It arrived Thursday and I wanted to wait until Sunday (today) to give it to him but I caved on Saturday morning. I reasoned that he would be getting a second basket from us so it was okay to spread out the fun.
The Elmo basket was so cute and my mom put lots of great things in it! There was candy, toys, clothes and other things. I thought Dylan was going to tear into it but he was actually a little afraid. He cautiously removed a small ball from the top and wouldn’t go back for more, despite my coaxing.
I tried to turn it into a game. I grabbed an unused ice cube tray and filled it with little squares of colored paper. Then we took the candy out of the basket and sorted it into the tray. This proved to be more entertaining for me than Dylan, like most of my craft ideas.
After lunch and Dylan’s nap we all piled into the car and made the 45 minute trek into Atlanta.
The occasion was a visit with our friends, the Dhaliwals. Meet Dana, Sundeep and baby Grant!
The Sirotins:
Grant is almost a year old.
He and Dylan both have full heads of curly hair, just different colors.
The boys sized each other up for awhile and eventually broke down and hugged. Dylan borrowed a sippy cup from Grant and became obsessed with it!
They had a lot of fun playing together!
We stopped by the grocery store on the way home to get things for dinner. As usual, Jay had to perform a circus act to keep Dylan from climbing out of the cart.
And Dylan inspected our purchases:
Saturday night was more of the same…playing, eating and eventually sleeping.
Sunday
Sunday (today) is Easter. Being away from my family on holidays is always hard for me. I know they are all together sharing our traditions and it can bum me out if I let it. More than anything, I just think about how much Dylan would enjoy celebrating with his extended family. However, because I know this about myself, last night I made the decision to not let anything bum me out today and I think that really helped. Instead, I focused on staying positive and making the day enjoyable for Dylan. It started with another Easter Basket.
I filled Dylan’s basket with a variety of trinkets. Here’s a sampling:
An ice cream cone that squirts water.
A glow stick that looks like a bee:
A travel brush with a mirror that collapses (he loved this one).
And an egg filled with Lip Smackers (admittedly, this was more for me than Dylan).
Later in the morning I convinced Jay to hide some plastic eggs stuffed with stickers in the back yard. I know I said I wasn’t going to hide eggs back there, but I had no choice…there was nowhere else! Regardless, Dylan had no interest in finding any eggs. I (very) enthusiastically tried to show him how awesome it is to discover a plastic Easter egg, but it didn’t click. Below is the Easter basket after I found three eggs and Dylan found a pine cone, leaf, wood chip and flower.
Back inside we played Play-Doh. I have to say, Dylan is really starting to get into Play-Doh. When I first exposed him to it a few months ago he was very resistant and wouldn’t even touch it, but now he gets right in there!
I mixed things up a little and lifted weights during Dylan’s nap.
I’ve been on a long-standing cardio kick but today I took it slow and just lifted. It was refreshing!
Dylan and I went to the park in the afternoon. Here he is flexing!
The weather was gorgeous! It was breezy and comfortable and not oppressively hot!
And then I treated Dylan to a soft-serve yogurt.
Where was Jay during all this? He spent the day working in the yard.
Check out how much better it looks!
The front:
The back:
The motivation? This:
We are finally putting our house on the market! And by “on the market” I mean we stuck a sign in the ground. That should do it, right?
Actually, Jay has a whole marketing plan for selling the house and I sure hope it works! We want to move closer to Atlanta so that Jay’s closer to work and there’s more for Dylan and I to do every day.
I guess that’s it for the weekend! Peace.

Courtney – I’m so happy to hear you are moving closer to Atlanta. Good luck!
