Weekend Recap: Not Another Tea Party

Though it isn’t widely featured in the highlight reel of this weekend’s recap, when I think back on the last two days, the book Not Another Tea Party quickly comes to mind. I must have read it thirty times. Dylan loves tea pots, tea sets, tea parties and all books on the subject of tea. I wonder if he would actually like tea if he tried it. Probably not.

The weekend kicked off early on Friday. Jason took the morning off so that we could go to the aquarium again. We thought if we got there when it first opened on a weekday we would beat the crowds but it was still pretty busy.

I took a bunch of videos of the fish again, but since this isn’t an aquatic blog (unless you are reading from the tub, in which case, be careful not to electrocute yourself), so I’ll refrain from posting them.

Well, maybe it is an aquatic blog because Saturday morning we ended up by some water again. This time it was a pond.

I had signed Dylan up to attend a presentation on turtles at local heritage museum but we hit awful traffic on the way there and had to abort the mission. The weather was mild so we decided to get some fresh air and hike around Sope Creek, which is part of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, instead. The trail is near Dylan’s preschool so we sometimes stop by after I pick him up and toss rocks in the pond, like so:

We also followed a trail around the pond and I’m pretty sure it was Dylan’s first official hike.

I see many more in his future!

We wanted to stay out longer, so after our hike we headed to Marietta Square to walk around and grab lunch. There was a nice farmer’s market going on when we got there.

There is a stage in the center of the square and somehow Dylan always ends up on it. This time, he had company. I was hoping Dylan would bust out his breakdancing moves, but he was being a little shy.

We also stopped by a toy store where Dylan threw caution to the wind and opened an umbrella indoors.

I can’t imagine where he gets his devil-may-care attitude from. Hmmm…

We eventually made our way back home and relaxed for a couple of hours before heading back out to dinner. Jason snuck a video of one of many rounds of Not Another Tea Party readings. Its actually a really cute book!

Next, we got ready to meet our friends for dinner. I was having issues with half of my hair so I pulled the annoying part back in a clip and left the other half down. I felt lopsided but decided to just go with it.

Dylan dozed off a couple of minutes from the restaurant and was none-to-pleased to wake up at the table thirty minutes later. Only a taste of ice cream was able to calm him down. Kid, I relate!

We were dining at Frankie’s, a great Italian restaurant, with Jase, Davina and Zara. The dinner was designed to get us all excited for a trip we’re all taking to Italy in the Fall! We have a shared friend who is getting married there. I’m so excited! I haven’t been on a vacation alone with Jay since our honeymoon in 2005! I’m nervous about leaving Dylan for a week but I know he will be in the best of hands with my family! They are all helping to make this trip possible for us and I am so grateful!

We laid low and hung out at home Sunday morning. There is rain in the forecast this upcoming week so we made sure to get outside while we could. Dylan loves getting flung around in his Spin N Saucer!

We left the house to run some errands in the afternoon. One stop we made was to Trader Joes, where Jason shopped while I prevented Dylan from crashing his cart into wine displays.

When we got home I had a lot of cleaning and organizing to do. I finally purchased some bins to tackle the toy-organizing situation I mentioned a few weeks back!

The rest of the night was the usual…dinner, bath time, lounging about. Jason and Dylan caught up on some computer work too.

The weekend wrapped up with a visit from Justin and Kendy again! Kendy is obsessed with zombies and needed a place to catch the mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead.

And that’s that! I’m looking forward to Monday because Jay and I are having a random workday day-date and are going to try to catch Identity Theft, that new Jason Batemen (<3) movie!
