Weekend Recap: Out With A Sigh

Happy New Years Eve!

As much as I like to blog, I wish I were doing something a bit more celebratory tonight. Unfortunately, I am recovering from a little illness so ordering Chinese food and blogging in front of a movie are about as fancy as I’m getting tonight. My illness is also to blame for the late weekend recap. Its very important to place blame, so there you go.

(BTW, Wanderlust is a great movie. Very funny and relatable.)

I have very few pictures from Saturday because I spent most of the day lying down. I should explain that I am having a food-related illness and not a virus so I wasn’t contagious. Even so, Jason is extremely germaphobic so he avoided me like the plague. I would be offended except that he was SO AMAZING taking care of Dylan and I’m extremely grateful for that.

In years to come I will always look back on this weekend as Dylan’s “Circle Period”. He probably made a thousand circles over the last few days. Almost all his waking hours were spent with a pen/marker/pencil in hand drawing circles on paper/magazines/mail and even…tubs. Did you know they made tub crayons? They wash right off with water. Dylan loves them.

I’m not exaggerating when I say he’s been drawing circles compulsively. He couldn’t even make it through a meal without making them this weekend.

Here’s a glimpse at how sick I was…and the corresponding mess of the house. The orderliness of my house generally matches my state of mind, so this is pretty accurate:

(Actually, that doesn’t look too bad. That’s a manageable mess!)

Other than a trip to the grocery store, Saturday was spent at home.

Sunday morning we took my broken laptop to get repaired but ended up getting to the store before it opened so we popped by a nearby park to kill some time. We only stayed a few minutes, though, because it was very cold and we didn’t have our jackets.

I was worried Dylan would tear the computer store apart because of his strong attraction to screens, buttons and all forms of technology, but he was actually pretty chill. He was happy to be there, but still totally manageable. Notice my firm grip on his arm…

I call this video “Kid in a Computer Store”:

Later in the day, while Dylan napped, I ran out to the drugstore for a few items. While there, this item turned my already sensitive stomach:

Seriously? Bacon in a box? Yuck.

I also picked up a new silver nail polish for $1.99. (Guys, I told you this was a wild weekend. YOLO.) I tested it on my thumb in the parking lot.

Later that afternoon we were invited to our friends’ house for a potluck. I wore the earrings my friend Katie gave me before leaving New Hampshire. I told her I would show them off on the blog so here they are! (Thanks, Katie! I love them!)

My boys:

Dylan’s friends, Zara and Olivia:

Dylan was so happy to be out of the house and around friends! Even so, he kept to himself. I’m enjoying getting to know his personality and watching it grow and develop. Lately I’ve been noticing that he craves being around people and responds positively to the energy of a group, but he likes to stay a little on the outskirts of it.

Its almost like he finds his center when in a crowd and it makes him want to be more independent and do his own thing.

My little circle maker is so complex!

And that concludes a very uneventful weekend recap! Jason, who is on his computer next to me, just declared, “Nobody parties as hard as we do. Nobody.”

Friends, next year, if you are still reading this blog, please remind me that I need to do something exciting for New Years!

Wishing you all a happy new year filled with magic and happy surprises!

Next year we will do something together. We were so beat that at 9 we fell asleep, only to have my alarm go of at 1145 so we could groggily say “Happy New Year,” which came out more like “mgahagaffa, sleep.” I’m sorry u don’t feel good! Ginger ale!! The earrings look purty on you! Have you figured out the wrap yet? 🙂 I miss you so much!!!!!!!
