Saturday was Dylan’s officially birthday party. He turned two last week but since Jay had a bachelor party last weekend we decided to have Dylan’s party this weekend so that we could all celebrate on all cylinders.

One funny thing about having a toddler of Dylan’s age is that he doesn’t really know what it means when I say, “You’re having a birthday party today!” Since the party was scheduled for late afternoon, most of Saturday was typical, if not a little boring, for him.

He was patient as I prepped food for the party.

These spiced mixed nuts turned out yummy:

He entertained himself while we tidied the house around him:

He tolerated a trip to the grocery store for last minute things, like these balloons:

And he fueled all our party-prep efforts with lots of these adorable smiles:

(Seriously, that smile! It kills me.)

While he napped, Jason and I set about decorating the house and setting up play stations outside.

Finally, we set out appetizers, woke our son and greeted our friends.

We had an excellent turnout! I think Dylan was shocked to have so many kids his age at his house to play with! I actually don’t have any pictures of the kids playing outside but they had a great time.

Eventually, cake was served! Dylan attacked the frosting with two fists while we sang him Happy Birthday. The boy loves cake. Who can blame him, really?

You know who else likes cake?

Miss Olivia:

Mr. Max:

Miss Zara:

I didn’t see Mr. Grant eat any cake, but here’s his cute face:

And Rosie is too little for cake, but she’s sweet enough already:

Still, I think Dylan liked it the most.

As the party wound down the kids opened gifts and helped Dylan test out his new toys. He got some great stuff!

It was an excellent party. Dylan has a blast and even enjoyed the post-party clean-up, contentedly playing with his new toys while Jay and I buzzed around him putting the house back in order. I know he won’t remember his second birthday party, but I will, and it’s a memory that I’ll always hold dear.

Jason and I went to a screening of a film he produced at a famous film critics house today. This film is called A Free Bird and it was phenomenal!

And now I’ll share a little something that I should probably be embarrassed about but I’m not: I got drunk at the screening! Since I haven’t been drunk in eons I’m not too worried anyone will think less of me. It was the perfect recipe for me to want to drink, so I did!

I like lists so…

4 Reasons I Got Drunk Today:

1) I was out without Dylan (he had a babysitter).

2) It was daytime (I hate drinking at night)

3) I was in a fancy house filled with really good wine (and everyone was partaking!)

4) I am socially awkward and clutching a drink was giving me comfort. Slup. “Nice to meet you.” Slurp. “How do you know the director?” Slurp.

Photo evidence below. Notice my awkwardness and the clutched drink in every shot!

When the movie ended I collected myself (quite well, I might add) and we made our way to the car. Once we got in the car, I let it all go:

It was a fun afternoon, for sure!

When we got home we relaxed for a bit and then went out to dinner with Dylan. I was pleased with my afternoon drinking experience because I had some fun and then went back to normal really easily, with no headache or anything. I think I have the good wine to thank for that (and coffee).

Anyway, dinner:

And Dylan, seasoning his water:

A true chef in the making! Delicious peppery water…mmm…

Lastly, another cute picture of Dylan taken earlier this week because I’m his mom, this is my blog and I want to show him off.

Pow! Take that! Winking smile

Wow! I am glad you had a good time at the party. Socially awkward is never a term I would use with you. It looks like you were role playing the whole time! I love the eyeglasses! I hide behind mine sometimes! Dinner looked like fun!
It sounds like Dylan had a great birthday! The kid pictures are so cute! You did an awesome job setting up!! Wish I could have been there ! But it’s the kids that make it! I love you all! Special love to the birthday boy!
