Weekend Recap: Funny Faces

Post image for Weekend Recap: Funny Faces

Before getting into the weekend, I thought I’d share this picture and video of Dylan at Chuck E. Cheese earlier in the week. I got 40 tokens to start and he used every single one of them on this Bob the Builder ride. Its funny to me because he has seen and dismissed this ride countless times during previous visits to Chuck E. Cheese, but now that he is heavily into construction vehicles and Bob the Builder, this ride is like crack for him. He seriously couldn’t let himself use his tokens elsewhere or get off the ride until he was depleted of tokens. He begged for more when he ran out and I gave him 4 more on the condition he try another ride but he played me and ran straight back to this one!

Here he is 30ish rides in…he’s starting to get creative. At the end, when the ride ends, you can see how he was compelled to put another token in right away!

Oh! And I have this great video of our family celebrating Shabbat. It was Dylan’s turn at school to bring home the Shabbat bag with all the items in it.

I made pancakes on Saturday because Dylan said he wanted them. He ate precisely zero bites.

After an unrushed morning at home, the three of us set off on some errands. We will be gone next week and we had some things to take care of before we leave, so we didn’t plan too much for the weekend. We are driving to Indianapolis to spend the holiday with my in-laws, Roxanne and Russ, with a night in Nashville on the way there and back. Eight hours of driving seems too much to do with Dylan in one day so we are breaking it up.

Our first stop was at an iPad screen repair place because Dylan dropped Jay’s old iPad (now Dylan’s) awhile ago and we’ve been using it with a cracked screen. The crack was getting into dangerous territory so it was time to do something about it.

After we dropped the iPad off we got lunch at the Marietta Diner, one of our favorite local restaurants that I blog about a lot. Their extensive menu, great prices, huuuuge portions, quick service and kid-friendly atmosphere can’t be beat. The food tastes good too; I mean, how could any of this be bad?…

We didn’t eat massive slices of cake on this visit, but I did give into one pregnancy craving and it was worth it:

Here’s a video of Jay entertaining Dylan during lunch:

Another stop was Target, aka Dylan’s favorite place on earth. Jay and I took turns following him around the toy aisle and picking up the stuff we needed.

We made a couple other stops after that, but I can’t remember them now and I didn’t take pictures so its possible they never actually happened.

We got home in the early evening and just hung around. I have so many things I need to get done around the house but I can’t seem to actually accomplish anything, or if I do its really slowly. When the house starts to feel out of control, I find myself sweeping the floor a lot, probably because its one of the few things I can do quickly and see a big impact.

Anyway, I recently moved Dylan’s easel from the upstairs play room, where it was being forgotten, into the kitchen. Its had a nice resurgence.

Dylan, however, is most fond of mixed media art. Many times in the last two weeks I have walked in on him painting with things he shouldn’t be painting with on inappropriate surfaces. Example: emptying an entire bottle of glue on the floor, getting a large paint brush from the garage and using the glue to paint the kitchen walls. He can accomplish things like this in record time, so don’t think I’m just leaving him to his own devices all day.

Saturday night he explored painting wood. He used the paint as the mortar/cement…whatever that stuff is that you use to hold bricks together…and scraps of wood to make a house. He then painted the house green.

Here’s a cute video of him doing it:

Jay and I split ways on Sunday to accomplish some tasks. Jason took my car to NTB for an oil change, alignment and new tires. Apparently I’ve been driving on bald ones. He got a great deal of two free tires with the purchase of two. He also got my car cleaned and detailed for our trip. He likes to drive in style and wasn’t about to put up with my mess!

While he did that, I took Dylan to Catch Air! in Sandy Springs. It’s a kid’s wonderland and indoor playground that I’ve blogged about before. Dylan’s friend, Olivia, invited him!

Dylan’s favorite part of going to Catch Air! is when they turn down the lights, invite the kids onto the dance floor and have dance parties. They always have a costumed character come out to surprise the kids and dance with them too. I caught a video of Dylan’s reaction when he turned around and saw Spongebob approaching it. Its pretty funny…Dylan was a bit stunned.

I wanted to keep him out of the house a bit longer after we left Catch Air! and wanted him to get some Fresh Air! so we went to a park after that.

We spent the rest of the afternoon making a mess at home. I also ate Dylan’s Hanukkah cookies while he took a bubble bath. I’m not Jewish so forgive me for this question, but why does it seem like Hanukkah is spelled differently every time I see it? I see variations of the word starting with “Hs” and sometimes it starts with a “C” and so on. I can see there being a Hebrew version and an English version, but why so many others?

Dylan has been interested in wiggling his various facial features lately and he’s pretty good at some of them. He was practicing in front of the mirror after his bath and I got a cute video. Unfortunately, he was getting frustrated by the time I thought to get the camera and had given up wiggling the facial parts on their own and had resorted to using his fingers to wiggle them. Its still very cute:

While Jay was out he found an indestructible iPad case, so hopefully we won’t be dealing with anymore cracked screens in the future! Dylan thought he got a new iPad so he was very excited.

That’s about it for our weekend! Hope you guys enjoyed yours!
