Post image for Weekend Recap: Memorial Day Weekend

Our long Memorial Day weekend kicked off early with an excursion to the aquarium to see a Smurfs exhibit.

We were going to go to the zoo, but when I heard the little blue people were coming to the aquarium, we changed plans.

Dylan enjoyed himself but I think he was confused about the Smurfs and didn’t understand why I kept asking him if he was excited to see “the little blue people.”

We also spent time watching the fish.

Dylan loves the moving walkway through a fish tunnel. He gets on the walkway and actually stands still until the very end.

Here’s lookin’ at you, kid…

Dylan scored a big lollipop on the way out. Is there anything cuter than a little kid eating a giant lollipop?

Dylan and I parted from Jay mid-afternoon. Jay and the other guys at ECG had a big night on the town scheduled to celebrate moving into their new offices.

The weather was gorgeous so I took Dylan to a park on the way home from dropping Jay off at his car. I got this video of Dylan trying to roll down a hill…I know I’ve shared rolling-down-hill videos here before, but I love them so I’m doing it again!

We broke out the sand art when we got back home. I’m starting to learn the kind of activities Dylan enjoys doing outside. He’s not that into balls or even playgrounds, but if I offer him a messy art project, he’ll stay out there for a loooooong time. I need to stock up on messy art project ideas!

Hard at work making his sand art:

When Dylan was asleep I watched Silver Lining Playbook. It was SO GOOD. Bradley Cooper makes mental illness very attractive.

The three of us went out to breakfast on Saturday morning.

Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!

Dylan is on the verge of accepting pancakes into his small repertoire of acceptable foods. I think. He’s got a weird method for eating them though…

We intended to go to a farmer’s market in Piedmont Park after breakfast, but stumbled upon a big jazz festival instead. We rolled with it. (Literally…in a wagon).

Piedmont park has nice playgrounds…

Jay got a haircut in the afternoon. Our favorite frozen yogurt bar is next to the hair salon, so we also made getting yogurts a part of the equation.

Dylan had fun creating spin art when we got home. (I think I had just as much fun. I find spin art extremely satisfying.)

The day rounded out with a bath and books!

Sunday started with the sunrise.

Jay took Dylan to a park while I tried to work on painting the fence again. I can’t seem to make much progress.

When they got home, two hours later, I had only gotten this far! (At least note that I did both sides of the fence even though you can only see one, and I got further on the other side.)

IMG_1734 (640x480)

I truly enjoy painting the fence and would love to finish it myself, but I can’t keep squirrelling away all these solo hours so we are probably going to have to hire someone to finish it. Sad smile

Anyway, Dylan took a rare nap in the afternoon and then when he woke up we broke in the neighborhood pool.

Dylan moves like a turtle in his swim vest. Its cute watching him try to get up from a lounge chair.

Later, when Dylan was in bed for the night, Jay and I broke out the wine and popcorn and settled to start the new season of…

Dylan helped me make scrambled eggs Monday morning. He’s getting the hang of cracking eggs!

He’s an old pro at pouring salt. (He gets that from me.)

We didn’t have any plans, so we went for a hike along the Chattahoochee River. Hikes with Dylan aren’t long in distance, but they are long in time. We move slowly and stop often. Winking smile

Worth it:

At some point it became clear that Dylan needed to get in the water. We all took off our shoes and waded in. It was cold and muddy but definitely the highlight of the trip for Dylan!

We stopped by Jay’s new office to change after our hike and then grabbed a quick bite to eat at a restaurant.

The day ended with more Arrested Development!

Hope you guys had nice weekends too!
