Post image for Weekend Recap: Allergies and Letters

We had a nice weekend, despite allergy season striking our house hard. Jason and Dylan share a lot of physical characteristics, including allergies. Both of my boys are suffering right now. Sad smile

Personal Shopper

May 17, 2013

Sometimes I fantasize about having a personal shopper. I don’t enjoy picking out clothes and I’m always confused about fashion. I often have questions about what to wear under what or which shoes go with certain pants. Fashion is one area of my life where I have very little confidence. I will wear bold things now and then, but I don’t stray far from my “uniform”, which is a Dress Down Friday affair nearly every day of the week consisting of jeans, t-shirts and sneakers.

Post image for Weekend Recap: Hot Dogs and Valor

Grab a donut, sit down and relax. Let’s take a moment to reflect upon my weekend. When I’m done, we’ll talk about yours.

Actually, heck, I always go first. Why don’t you go first this time?

I don’t hear you talking.

Fine, I’ll go first.

Post image for A Fate Worse Than Facebook

I’m one of those people who never uses Facebook. This is for a number of reasons:

1. I’m introverted in large social gatherings. I think Facebook qualifies as such because I experience the same anxiety when I click around it and see all the heated discussions going on as I do when I walk awkwardly/aimlessly around a lively party. I’ll just stand over here in a corner, thanks.

2. I feel weird posting little snippets of what I’m doing or saying on a regular basis. It seems like it would feel boastful or boring, depending on the day. (Don’t ask me how this is different from blogging…maybe because I can spew more words in a blog post, so no one or two sentences have the pressure to be important.)

3. Knowing at-a-glance what every single person I have ever known is doing stresses me out! I don’t think humans were designed to process this amount of social information. Facebook makes me question my own choices and compare myself to others and I don’t like the way that feels. Also, its all glorified. I think it should be called BoastBook.

4. I’m a little lazy. You have to be either all in or all out when it comes to Facebook. My family and friends know that I am never on Facebook so they aren’t offended or surprised when I miss a bunch of pictures they’ve posted, but if I were on Facebook just a little bit, I would feel awful if I missed “liking” pictures of my niece and nephews. Its easier just to never go one it, unless I have something specific to accomplish. (For the record, when I am on Facebook, I do love looking at pictures of my family!)

Post image for Weekend Recap: Rain, Rain, Go Away

It rained on and off all weekend, but we had a cookout and prepped our backyard for the summer anyway. Take that, rain!

Post image for I Know You Are But What Am I?

Sometimes I feel a little weird about having a blog because my days are pretty ordinary. I spend most of my time reliving my toddler years, which is a little weird. I go to parks, libraries and gymnastics classes and eat a lot of chicken fingers and French fries. I’ve given a lot of thought to what I am doing in my life right now, and even though I have some yearnings to be more active in an adult world, I ultimately value these days spent with Dylan more than anything else I could be doing and I am grateful for the opportunity to have them. But are they blog-worthy? Not always, especially in comparison to Jason’s jam-packed, action-filled, anything-can-happen days.

Post image for Weekend Recap: In Sickness & In Health

Thank you to Jay for supplying the title of tonight’s recap! It was, as the title indicates, a weekend of highs and lows. Dylan went to bed with a low grade fever Friday night and woke up Saturday feeling just miserable. A quick trip to the doctor’s office revealed his ear infection was back and, for whatever reason, he seems to get a fever in conjunction with it. He was only on his antibiotics for four out of the ten prescribed days last time he was sick (we thought he was possibly having some adverse reactions to the antibiotic so the doctor said he could stop early if his infection had cleared up. It had, but she did warn me that it might come back.). The good news is, the antibiotics made him feel much better in 24-hours, the bad news is, he was down for the count on Saturday and had to miss a classmate’s birthday party. So, that’s the overview of our weekend, but here are details:

Weekend Recap: Mended

April 22, 2013

Post image for Weekend Recap: Mended

I’m super happy to report that Dylan is feeling much better! His fever broke Friday morning but then Saturday he woke up with a full body rash. A quick conference with his doctor revealed that a rash following a fever is a very common occurrence in a child fighting a virus and that it’s a sign that his body did what it was supposed to do and kicked the virus’s butt. Or something like that. Bottom line is: Dylan’s week long illness seems to be over and that made this otherwise low-key weekend higher-key. (See what I did there?)

If you’re wondering where I’ve been this week, I’ll tell ya! Dylan has had a fever since Monday and I’ve been tending to him pretty much nonstop. We went to the doctor and she thinks it’s a virus but If it doesn’t go away by tomorrow morning she wants to see him again. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it breaks today.
